Background
“Do you ever find yourself guessing who’s actually paying attention in your online class?”
When students keep their cameras off, it’s hard to tell who’s really present. So we designed Hyperfocus, a tool that runs quietly in the background, tracking attendance and evaluating focus, so teachers don’t have to guess.
Core problem
Students often kept cameras off, and in some cultures, like girls wearing niqab, facial detection didn’t work reliably.

Instructors: Track, teach, and adapt with clarity
Easily create live sessions, notify students, and start teaching without distractions. See attendance, quiz results, and focus levels in one view so you can adapt your approach on the spot.

See the full picture of your class in one screen
No more guessing who’s showing up, paying attention, or actually understanding the material. Hyperfocus puts attendance, quiz scores, and focus tracking side by side so you can see exactly how your class is doing at a glance.

Students: Stay engaged without feeling watched
Join sessions in Teams or Zoom and prove you’re focused, even if your camera stays off. Your video feed is never shown to anyone, and if you’re not facing the camera, quick pop quizzes let you show you’re following along.

Results and Impact
Created an alternative engagement check: automated pop quizzes based on recently explained concepts, allowing focus tracking without relying only on video.
Designed with cultural sensitivity and adaptability in mind, ensuring the solution worked for diverse classrooms.
POC laid the groundwork for full integration with major conferencing tools (teams, zoom, etc) keeping the teaching experience uninterrupted.
Innovators supported: nominated in the top 30 projects and got a fund of 25K EGP to further develop the project.
